We all fall into a rut from time to time. Learning how to find inspiration and get back on our A-game is a skill we can develop and hone to our advantage. Taking the time to cultivate this skill gives us more control over our behavior and helps us stay the course with our goals. And it all starts with having mental processes in place that resolve some of our most commons obstacles – our thoughts and feelings.

Knowing exactly what to do when you feel uninspired makes it easier to change your state. Below are five ways to get inspired and get your A-game back. Try them out and find out which one works best for you.

Reconnect With Your Purpose. Whatever project we’re working on or goal we’re attempting to achieve, we should reconnect with our main reasons for pursuing them in the first place. Oftentimes, we get lost in the minutia of day-to-day, and we forget – on an emotional level – why what we’re doing is so important. If we take the time to reconnect we will, most likely, find the same inspiration that sent us down this path in the first place.

Get Curious. When things feel a bit monotonous, it can leave us uninspired. One way to solve this is to get curious. If we haven’t reached our goal yet, that means there’s still much to learn. Sometimes we’re so focused on all the things we know that we forget that there’s still much to learn. We can start by asking ourselves one question we can’t immediately answer. Then take the time to learn something new. It may open the door to new discoveries that provide even more inspiration.

Change Your Focus. When we find ourselves stuck and feeling depleted it’s a good idea to switch perspectives. It may be that our mind is overwhelmed by the enormity of the task at hand, or maybe we’ve suffered a couple of setbacks, and we’re beginning to doubt our efforts. If we can find a way to change our outlook to a more service-focused perspective, it may allow us to appreciate, for example, how many people need what we have to offer and how important it is for us to complete the task in front of us, for them, even more than us.

Find Inspiration In Others. People are inspiring. Whatever struggle we may be facing there’s likely someone who’s overcome so much more. When we’re in need of an inspirational boost, we can seek these stories out. They’ll help us to see the bright light at the end of the tunnel. Reading inspirational biographies would be a great idea for this.

Play the What If Game. Sometimes we limit ourselves without even realizing it. We think an idea sounds ridiculous or too far-fetched and so we kill it before it ever has a chance to bloom. One way to get around this is to play the game of What If. We take an idea that seems ridiculous on its face and give into it, if just for a while. We allow ourselves to explore the possibilities without judgment. Going through this process, we may discover that the idea is not as crazy as it seems. At the very least, our expanded vision can provide inspiration and new insights that can prove beneficial to us in some way.
